Brazilian Music...
Psychology...
Sound Healing...
There is no doubt Joseh Garcia has magic!!!
When listening to this amazing singer we may experience ourselves on a Brazilian beach, refreshed by a serene breeze, and taken by a passionate caress. Joseh’s songs personify the characteristics of Brazilian charm: sensuality and embodied playfulness. With precise vocal gestures Joseh whispers secrets that gently invite each of us to go deeply within.
Each note is beautifully sung with intention and care. His voice and movements enchant us as his whole being swings in harmony. Either solo or with a full band Joseh'’s strong stage presence has the power to move us and make us smile, while we experience the joy of surrender.
The visionary artist Silvia Nakkach said: “"Joseh Garcia may well shake the boundaries of Brazilian Music and cool jazz in decades to come."” As we listen to Joseh (pronounced Jo-Zay) we know he is not afraid to explore and cross boundaries. Like an alchemist, Joseh tastes each song, combining, reconstructing, and creating something new, maybe a children’s song in a flamenco rhythm. His refined musical taste and openness for unusual encounters has led him to explore the meeting of Bossa and Middle Eastern music, and of Brazilian and electronic music. In 2011 Joseh Garcia released his first EP, Bossa a Trois, in collaboration with Jonathan Rickert. The album creatively embraces Brazilian pop and downtempo and was produced by French Daniel Masson, known worldwide for his Buddha Bar (Paris) compilations. Joseh effortlessly and beautifully stretches the limits of his native music.
Joseh is a Ph.D. graduate whose deep connection with music has led him to examine the listener’s psychological transformation through songs. Joseh’s melodies gracefully embody his research. As we listen to him, we sense a tender place within that is full of potential for transformative experiences.
Joseh Garcia has reached audiences in Brazil, Italy, France, and Canada and has worked with groundbreaking producers such as France’s Daniel Masson. In the United States he has performed in venues such as Palace of Fine Arts, Yoshi's SF, La Pena Cultural Center, California Institute of Integral Studies, Rudramandir, and Red Poppy Art House. With the depth of his music, Joseh Garcia aspires to reconnect his listeners with the human and transcendent aspects of life.

" Bossa a Trois"
"...a fascinating musical experiment..."
"...catchy, relaxing, and addictive..."
"...musicianship is of top quality..."
"...infectuos blend of bossa downtempo..."
Born in Brazil and based in San Francisco, Joseh Garcia is a talented singer and composer of Brazilian music with a noticeable dowtempo chill-out music component. On Bossa a Trois, Joseh is joined by composer, producer, guitarist, and sound designer Jonathan Rickert. Together with the production skills of Daniel Masson, Bossa a Trois is a fascinating musical experiment by an innovative team of musicians and experts in world and electronic music. Throw in a touch of Latin, jazz, ambient, house, and Brazilian pop and Bossa a Trois is the result.
Bossa a Trois begins with a few gently played, downtempo keyboard riffs before Josehs slightly raspy or gritty voice adds another level of complexity. A light percussive beat fills in-between the English and Portuguese vocals. After the first few stanzas and the chorus, the music drifts into a cool mosaic of vibraphone effects, cymbal percussion, metallic sounds, and the main beat of the song repeated a few times. The outro repeats the primary beat again with Joseh singing the title of the song two times with an echoey feedback that appears to float effortlessly into the chilled bossa nova abyss. The cool keyboard effects are smoother than the sandy beaches lining Brazils Eastern coast. Moreover, the trippy beat adds a splash of Brazilian ingenuity for good measure, making the song stand out as a catchy, relaxing, and addictive experience.
Whether Pulsar is named for a soft, pulsating acoustic guitar and electronic rhythm or a highly magnetized rotating neutron star, the result is the same: a pulsating mix of drowned-out metallic sounds, keyboard effects, and Josehs fluid vocals that combine to form something unique and fresh. The sum is a trippy mix of bossa nova sounds that form a new and exciting type of music: bossa house trance. Interestingly, the connection between electronic music in France and Brazil is comparable in tone, rhythm, and structure. Me Vi Mais Vivo opens with a few percussive thuds, guitar strums, and echoey, keyboard strokes with Josehs cool, seasoned voice. A few shaker sounds are added to the mix with ambient, electronic soundscapes in the vein of Enigma after the drum kit surfaces. The latter half of the song incorporates rainforest sounds that remind listeners the Brazilian musical connection is not too far away. The combination of electronic, ambient, and percussion effects provide a rhythmic and infectious blend of bossa downtempo.
Amor Bossa Nova opens with a jaunty, keyboard tune with a very cool sound and Jonathans guitar work. Of course, Josehs signature voice proclaims his love for bossa nova on this song. The main rhythm is backed by a few background symphonic vocals reminiscent of a classic throwback to Brazils music scene in the 1960s and 70s. The percussion and beat borders on Latin smooth jazz. The combination of a strong, downtempo chill-element provides relief from the heat on any summer day in Rio de Janeiro or Pittsburg, PA for that matter. Trapos Trecos opens with a guitar intro that blissfully repeats itself a few times before a light percussive beat kicks in and Josehs vocals lead the ambient soundscapes from a Heavenly source. Overall, the musical tone is not as adventurous or as bossa nova-esque as the other songs, but the song seems to incorporate a variety of sound textures, including echoey vocals, sparkling piano keys, spacey percussion, and ambient washes of sound delight.
Bossa a Trois is an EP that runs a little over twenty-two minutes and includes only five songs. Despite the short running time, the musicianship is top quality from Josehs vocals and keyboard mastery, Jonathans guitar work, and the aural soundscapes created with minimal instrumentation. The bossa nova sounds of Brazils Ceu and Caetano Veloso are not too far off from Josehs musical creations. However, the connection between bossa nova and downtempo music works as a winning combination. Notably, the music leans slightly more in favor of a downtempo sound, but that does not make it any less desirable. Still, Bossa a Trois does not contain any creative or aesthetic missteps. Fans of bossa nova, Brazilian, electronic, ambient, jazz, Latin-American, and European trip hop will love the softer and cooler side of Bossa a Trois.

Vamos tentar
Por que não?
Se o meu coração
Não quer mais solidão
Vamos além
Do um a um
Das convenções
Terceira função
Give it a try
A little off key
Amor mon amour
Already agreed
Today I feel existentialist
I want to explore
All that exists
Bossa a trois

Incerto me vejo a duvidar
No silêncio da noite
Eu sinto no ar
Vou resistir sem desistir

Por você me lancei no mar
Virei marinheiro
De primeira viagem
Busca de novas Américas
Calmarias, maremotos, tempestades
Deixei o porto seguro
Das minhas defesas
Saí da caverna pra ousar ver o sol
Abri a janela da masmorra
Confiança, mais entrega, esperança
Fui o primeiro a viajar
Pelas galáxias sem tripulação
Vi buracos negros, estrelas e Ets
Tantos discos pra tocar nosso coração
Me vi mais vivo
Me vi em perigo
Menos protegido
Em pleno desconhecido
Saindo do abrigo

Ah, não dá
Você é muito rock'n'roll
E eu quero pra mim agora só
Um Amor Bossa Nova
Você era muito rock'n'roll
E eu sou mais pra bossa
Sua gritaria quase me acabou
Me deixando na fossa
Então desliguei o seu microfone
Expulsei o seu pensamento
E saí do seu show
Com meu cabelo ao vento
Nada mais restou...
Feliz voltei pra bossa, minha velha bossa nova
Bem suave, sutil, harmonia gostosa
Você quis fazer da minha vida
Um carnaval sem fim
Sambando no meu peito
Sem nem ligar pra mim
Então arranquei sua fantasia
E a máscara caiu no chão
Ai de quem brinca
Com meu coração
Frações de afetos
Migalhas
Trapos trecos
Gentalha
Seres confusos
Padrões auto-destrutivos
Esforço extra
Coração dividido
Dúvidas, coisas vagas
Inércia, passividade
Descuido, desastre
Quanta inconsciência para tanta idade!
Trapos trecos, trapos trecos, trapos trecos

"Music as a vehicle for self-transformation: An organic inquiry into the experience of Rita Lee's songs"
Abstract
This dissertation examines music as a vehicle for self-transformation. Specifically, its primary purpose is to understand the transformative experience that selected people had by listening to the music of the Brazilian singer/songwriter Rita Lee.
This study is guided by the following research question: What do stories of 6 listeners reveal about the phenomenon of self-transformation through Rita Lee's music? In order to investigate this topic, organic inquiry was chosen as the research method. Data were gathered through interviews collected from 6 participants in the form of in-depth personal accounts of lived experience.
Analysis of the interviews revealed two sets of factors: (1) aesthetic attractive elements of this music (extrinsic and intrinsic); (2) sensations, images, thoughts, and emotions evoked in the listener. It also revealed six types of transformation the co-researchers went through their contact with this music: self-knowledge, self-acceptance, emotional change, empowerment, catharsis, and spiritual growth. In addition, the findings show that Rita Lee's songs were influential in the formation of their personal identities, awareness of social matters, and spiritual worldviews. Moreover, this project discusses the idea that self-identification and inner guidance may be one of the means by which these transformational musical experiences occur.
